
A Marketplace Fairness Act is going to be voted on May 6 in the Senate. This act would be leveling the field for both retail as well as online businesses as it imposes taxes on online purchases which have been exempt of them for so long. Supporters of the bill believe that this move would ensure that all businesses get equal opportunities and put an end to ‘showrooming’ where people went to showrooms to look for things and then went back home and bought them online. However, there are quite a few opposers who believe that the act would mean the death of small online industries.
